Getting things done!

14 April 2010
We're one or two steps closer to being ready. For the last few days we've been finishing up the wind generator and solar panel wiring. Huge projects especially when you add changing out one of our 170 lb house batteries (we have 3 now) and re-wiring about half the boat.

We are trying to get things done (at least caught up) for our granddaughter's visit. We're always working when she comes in so this time maybe we'll all get to do stuff together.

The boat is almost ready. We're still changing out parts of the watermaker system and completing some "on deck" stuff. Sandy completed the floor inspection hatch lock downs...that means she was able to figure out a way to secure all the below decks access covers so they wouldn't fly around in the event of a rollpover (I know...it's not a pleasant thought but you have to be prudent and plan for everything you can).

Today we're securing jib and staysail (pronounced (stay-sull). The staysail is our smaller sail in front (we have two). Fortunately the front sail adjustments do not require us to go up the mast.

Yesterday, I went up the mizzen mast and ran a cable down that allowed us to connect up the wind generator. This seemed like an easy task but it took 3 hours...After measuring and getting it all set up I managed to drop the connecting wire down inside the mast...had to re-do the whole thing...! (Way fun...ugh).

One last trip up the main mast tomorrow and we should be through being climbing monkeys. Hard to believe it's all coming together but perserverance seems to be paying off.

Ray out for now.
