Oak Harbor

09 May 2010
Well, we're out here...cruising it. Currently in Oak Harbor (WA)...anchored out in the middle of a fish bowl (well it feels like that anyway). Actually, we're in the middle of a beautiful, almost perfectly circular bay. On one "side" of the circle is the marina, on the other is the entrance the rest is ...oh...maybe 5000 houses all pointed right directly at the water...where we are...in the middle! Talk about people who live in glass houses...this thing is about a mile around, 10 feet deep where we are, and everywhere else it's three feet deep! Good thing our anchor is holding! ...Oh...and to top it off...we're the only boat out here...it's suspect it's sort of like trying to camp out inconspicuously, in the middle of a football stadium. Way weird for s who like to go by un-noticed.

Beautiful weather, no wind, temps in the 60's and 40's with plenty of sunshine. I told Sandy this is our practice for the sun in California and Mexico. We have all the NW stuff going on here...eagles, whales, otters and seals, lots of sea and shore birds....and in the early morning (like now) the bay is like a mill pond...reflecting like a perfect mirror.

While here we've been running and testing our equipment...generator, watermaker, wind generator, solar panels, anchoring system and radios. We've fine tuned everything including the dink and outboard...so far all systems are "go" for launch...ha!

Ray out for now.
