Fairhaven - Day 13 1/2 - Our New Sail is Here! Our New Sail is Here!

26 May 2010 | Bellingham, WA
Yes! Finally...our new sail has arrived!...'course we haven't seen it yet because it's over at Don, Miles, and Wendy's house but UPS gave us a verified delivery to said address. Yeeehaaa!...that means we can at least start thinking about heading north and continuing our journey.

Outside of checking the sail out, our newest hold-up looks like it will be the weather (again, as usual)... Bad Ju-Ju coming in starting tomorrow night....high winds and all that. We're talking about whether to stay out in it or not. We're getting braver now and our anchor is testing out really well, so it's a toss up on that one. On the other hand, it looks like a Tuesday departure from Fairhaven as we don't want to be any place significant during the Memorial Day weekend (boat crowds over memorial Day weekend can be awful)... Monday might be perfect to travel and anchor somewhere like Pender Bay, Canada or maybe head out Tuesday morning.

Today, rain and lots of it...Seattle style....we mostly stayed on the boat. We did get out though to visit Sandy's brother Don where he works at his Firehouse! That was so awesome! We got to meet the crew...see their quarters, watch them get dinner, and then a full tour of all their trucks and equipment...I was really impressed. The technology plus common sense and value for personal safety of their operation makes it a fantastic and well respected organization...but they have to be a family (brothers) in order to live together and survive out on the job! Our hats are off to them...really tough job.

Back at the boat, tonight we're running the generator as there was no sun or wind today and everything in the fridge is getting a might too warm. Generator keeps a dull drone going but not too bad...meaning it is tolerable and liveable (for a few hours)....we are always pleased thoug,h when we shut it off. The silence is deafening after you shut it off though. Normally, if we have any wind, or sun they will usually keep the refer and computers pretty charged up...but today...nada...neither wind nor sun...looks like it has to be powered by the dinosaur leavings.

Out for now...more tomorrow.
