Un-fishing Maple Bay -Day 3

19 June 2010 | Maple Bay -SE Vancouver Island
Ray here - supposed to rain...
Talk about being in the taxiway! We have no less than 6-8 airplanes a day taking off and landing here...they taxi right by...so close at times I can literally touch their wing tips! Way fun!

No fish today...probably because we didn't go fishing...ha! So yesterday was a do-nothing day...but the problem (for us) with do-nothing days is our TO-DO list builds! It also dawned on me that we have less than 30 days to get final things done before we go out and turn the corner.

We've established that departure is any time after the weekend of the 10th of July...which is our gathering/departure party so-to-speak...so we'll be looking at weather windows after that.

In the meantime...we're going to try to enjoy our being up here in the PNW and Canada...so beautiful and serene up here (well when the wind's not blowing). Speaking of crowds...(I was?) anyway... there aren't any crowds up here...none...no people to speak of. It's as if everything is still asleep. We thought it was going to be busy here but...nada...the word from shore is that the season hasn't begun yet...that as of the 1st of July things really get cranking in this area. So glad to be coming through here with no crowds...you can't believe how beautiful and quiet it is....with lots of boat parking spaces!

Our next journey is north again to Chemanis and the Ladysmith area (about 15 more miles north). We're only going there because they have a grocery store there (with chicken's, ribs and salad fixings of all things)...and well it's supposed to be a "fixed up" cute, quaint kind of place with lots of well decorated buildings and "old time stuff." After there...it's back down to here for some more fishing and sailing. We still have some work to do here on the boat (Sandy's going up the mast again for some stuck wires)...then it will be off to Roach or Friday Harbor then Fisherman's Cove on Lopez for the 4th...then Victoria for the 5th, then either to Esquimalt (next to Victoria on the Canadian side, or across to Port Angeles for our final departure prep and some family time.

Meantime...Ray out for now
