Back from dinner...now to haul out!

14 August 2009 | Ray here...
Thanks to Dennis and Mary we know we won't starve at least for this day in our retirement! ha!!...they treated us to a fantastic dinner at Anthony's Hearthfire in Olympia. (If you go don't miss the fillet with gorganzola cheese and truffle sauce! Yummm!)...anyway a great time was had by all!!! We laughed and really enjoyed ourselves...we shared out prep stories and of course our optimism about the trip. We all left promising to stay in touch....especially if they chose to visit us down the road...thanks again guys!

So, here we are on a typical cold and wet Peninsula morning (rained like hell last night...clear now)...getting ready to haul out. We'll may be off-line for a bit while we finish the prep for trip especially if I can't get our long range wi-fi hooked up over the weekend. Aside from that, all seems surreal for us knowing that beginning today nothing will be the same that we were used too. We lose our cars in a couple of days...me possibly to never drive again...and we're leaving an area we've been in for over 20 years (Sandy all her life)...to venture with our boat into the unknown.

Our list of projects for haul out (if anyone is interested) includes: scraping, sanding and painting the bottom, using a 60 foot lift I've rented to go up the mast and install our new LED tri-light, a couple of antenna's, wind sensing equipment, and finally inspecting and adjusting the lines and pully's... then going up the mizzen mast (the second smaller mast) and installing our new wind generator (it's huge and weighs like 50 lbs looks like a big airplane engine!)... We also will be installing new solar panels and adjusting the windlass for the anchor.

'Till later when we can get back on line....
