Last night!!

This will be my last blog for this trip. We will be home tomorrow night. It has been a great adventure and I am sorry it is coming to an end. The three of us managed very well living on the boat.

Done it all!!

Well we can come home now as we have done it all. Rode the waves on the Chesapeake and endured a t-storm in the middle of the Neuse River and yes it was complete with heavy rain, thunder and lighting. We are now safely docked at River Dunes listening to the rain pounding on the boat. Hopefully [...]

Homeward bound!!

We are slowly getting closer to home. Due to bad weather tomorrow we will be spending two nights at Dowry Creek Marina just outside Belhaven, NC. Depending on what Chantel does will determine whether we stop at Oriental or River Dunes

Outer Banks

We made it to Coinjock after six bridge openings and one lock on Friday morning before noon. Nothing in Coinjock. Left there early Saturday heading for the Outer Banks. Survived the shallow waters of Roanoke Sound and made it to Manteo. Love the Outer Banks. Looks like this is as far as we will [...]

Fireworks in Portsmouth

We left Hampton, VA and cruised into the Norfolk area. We passed two Navy ships that were pulling into port. Listening to the news they both were returning after several months at sea. Once docked we walked into town to find Jerry a barber, it was either get a haircut or grow a beard to complete the [...]

Chesapeake in the rear view mirror

We did it again, got up early to get ahead of the weather. This time it worked. The ride was bumpy but was predicted to get worst as the day progressed. Today was our last day on the Chesapeake. We had a great cruise despite her temper at times it is a beautiful body of water. The ICW is going to [...]

We are in Harbor Village tonight. Just as we left Morehead City this AM a rain cloud dumped on us. When it stopped raining there was this bright rainbow. We also literally cruised into a pod of dolphins today. They were swimming on both sides of the boat. I thought one or two was going to jump in the dingy when they came out of the water. Jerry even left the helm to take a look.

Hope all have enjoyed following our adventure . We will let you all know when the next one begins.

See you all soon!

Sunny and windy
We are slowly getting closer to home. Due to bad weather tomorrow we will be spending two nights at Dowry Creek Marina just outside Belhaven, NC. Depending on what Chantel does will determine whether we stop at Oriental or River Dunes

Dowry Creek Marina is a friendly place. They have a boaters lounge where everyone meets at 5:30 each night with cocktail of choice to share boating stories/tales.

Stay safe all if Chantel makes a visit to the plantation.

Hot and sunny
We made it to Coinjock after six bridge openings and one lock on Friday morning before noon. Nothing in Coinjock. Left there early Saturday heading for the Outer Banks. Survived the shallow waters of Roanoke Sound and made it to Manteo. Love the Outer Banks. Looks like this is as far as we will get as the weather for next week looks windy with waves. Tuesday we will head for the Alligator River to avoid the open waters. In the meantime we are going to enjoy Manteo. Will post pic when Jerry can get his computer connected.

Portsmouth has a really neat ferry system. We caught the ferry in Portsmouth and rode it to a Tide's baseball game in Norfolk last night. After the game they had fireworks, so we saw fireworks last night and tonight.

Tomorrow we will be back in the ICW and in a NC marina tomorrow night. Hope all had a great Fourth of July.

Chesapeake in the rear view mirror

29 June 2013 | Hampton, VA
Cloudy with rain
We did it again, got up early to get ahead of the weather. This time it worked. The ride was bumpy but was predicted to get worst as the day progressed. Today was our last day on the Chesapeake. We had a great cruise despite her temper at times it is a beautiful body of water. The ICW is going to seem very narrow when we get back in it.

Entering the channel approaching Hampton was very interesting today. They were having cigarette boat races. There must have been 20 - 25 boats racing/roaring around us. They had a helicopter filming it and he was flying so low he waved to us as he flew by. To make finding the marina even more of a challenge add a handful of small sailboats and a brisk 15 mph.

We will stay here for a few days to sit out some rough weather and then on to Portsmouth for the 4th.

Take care all.
