Tuesday arrived, departure!

22 March 2016

Tuesday arrived! The fuel was going to be removed. A new problem occurred. Neither of the two heads (toilets) on Queen's Ransom worked properly; the aft one not at all. Not an appealing situation when you are heading out to sea for a few days. We took them apart, rented a pressure washer etc, but couldn't fix the aft one. Two guys from the yard came after a lot of begging, but they couldn't solve it either. In the mean time Queenie got moved to the yard to have her aft fuel tank emptied.

At 4pm that afternoon we left, in a bit of rush. I couldn't stand to have more time wasted and not being our way in what was now starting to look as a quite tight schedule. We motor sailed to Puerto Calero as there is no fuel berth in Arrecife harbour. Strange! This was the training base for the female team SCA in the Volvo Ocean race, so I have seen quite a few videos from here. We filled up our tanks and they were kindly but slowly also arranging Wifi access so we could get the latest weather forecasts.

It was a beautiful evening. We were sailing down the coast of Lanzarote to the straight of water, Estrecho de la Bocayna, that separates it from Fuerteventura. We were protected by the island from swells and the sun was just setting. Hans cooked a vegetables and Spanish chorizo dinner. Darkness had officially fallen as we were going through the straight but a very bright Spring equinox moon provided quite light conditions. Hans pointed out the bright planet Jupiter. Life was bliss!
