Isla San Francisco
08 May 2014 | Isla San Francisco
We arrived in Isla San Francisco around lunch and proceeded to put the kayak in the water. Isla San Francisco is the longest sand beach on Isla Espiritu and probably the most photographed. A short kayak ride and hike over the sand dunes turned into a three hour hike over rugged mountains. Most of the path was well groomed although not wider than a goat's trail. There were a few tense moments as we scaled the side of a mountain but it was worth it. The view was spectacular.
After our hike we walked about a mile back to the kayak barefoot through the water along the shoreline. This was a most welcome relief for our tired, hot feet.
We relaxed by watching a Sapranos and then had dinner. We ate the fish we had bought earlier in the day from the fishermen at San Evaristo.
After dinner, we launched to kayak once again and headed to the beach to do some snorkeling. We were not disappointed. The water was warm and the fish abundant.
