Stateside Trip and NYC housesit
27 November 2014 | New York City - Queens

This blog entry has been a long time in coming. As most of you know, we arrived in New Zealand November of 2013 and began house sitting while Realtime was up for sale in Opua. Realtime is now sold. We are grateful to Jason at Gulf Group for spending a year finding a buyer. The couple who bought her are from Holland. They are young and have a 5 month old baby. They plan to come to NZ in January and sail around the area, when the weather is right heading for the islands of the South Pacific. We wish them all the best. They are going to keep the name Realtime, so for those of you who will continue to cruise the SP, keep a look out for the boat and welcome them as you did us. Krijn and Sacha are very nice people and we wish them fair winds.
We have had quite a whirlwind of activity since we left our house sit in Adelaide Hills. What a wonderful place that was. We just loved it...especially the people. Our next home base was in Long Beach with our good friends the Gidleys. We have visited all three of my kids, both or our sisters and several of our special friends. We had a Thanksgiving dinner in Vegas with my daughter and special time with grandson Parker. Next, we were off to Saticoy to see my youngest son, Matt play in a golf tournament. Then on to New York City, for a house sit in Queens. My oldest son and his wife joined us there, and we had a wonderful NYC experience. They took me to Radio City for my birthday and out to a famous Italian restaurant. It was a great time. Saturday, we head for Europe. We are doing a Danube River cruise from Budapest to Nuremburg and then start a series of house sits in the United Kingdom. The first one is in Colchester in Essex. Then follows: Isle of Wight, Kent, and Cheshire. Empty couple of weeks after that, followed by Reston, Virginia. Then we go to Bob's Marine Corps basic school reunion Fredericksburg, VA. Lots of moving around and adapting to animals, houses, and locales. But, we should end up with a pretty good knowledge of the UK. So happy that then we will care for the Gidleys' home in Long Beach from May to October. They have just bought a new Kadey Krogen trawler and have it in Canada just now, wanting to spend some extended time there. It will be nice to be returning to a place where we know our way around and can spend regular time with the family and friends that we have missed so much. That brings you up to date on us. I'll add to the gallery so you can see places as we continue on our land adventure.
All the best to those of our friends who are continuing cruising. Also to those who have decided to put their boats up for sale and return to land (at least for a while). Hoping that in our futures we will have some more shared adventures of one sort or another. Great memories and many more to be made in this beautiful world. The picture of Bob and I was taken at the Metropolitan Opera, where we saw The Barber of Seville, my birthday gift from Bob. Blessings, Karyn
