Luncheon Bay
24 September 2012 | North end of Hook Island
Susie
We spent the next few days in the various anchorages in the northern end of Hook Island; Butterfly Bay, Maureen’s Cove and Luncheon Bay, snorkelling, kayaking, but not fishing (it's all protected), and enjoying the best weather we have ever had in the Whitsundays. These are beautiful pristine spots with dramatic cliff faces plunging down into crystal clear water. There’s a terrific variety of coral and fish in all of them, a result of the 'no fishing/no flushing rule', but Luncheon Bay is the pick. It's too exposed to the north to be a suitable overnight anchorage (although in these conditions it would have been fine) but picking up a mooring for a couple of hours during the day is magic.
