Cruising Mexico
21 November 2010 | La Paz
John
Hi all,
We are anchored in La Paz on the eastern side of the Baja Peninsular. There are about 50 other boats here that came down on the HA HA also so we don`t go anywhere without running into some-one we know which is great.
We have eaten out most every meal since we arrived. The food is cheap and really good and the drinks also cheap and really good too !
On Thursday night we went to a party at the Papas & Beer resturant that was hosted by the local tourism board to welcome those of the HA Ha fleet that had arrived into LA PAZ. We were entertained by some of the local kids with traditional dance and then a Mariachi band who serenaded Leanne and our friend Lauri (photo above) and then a local Gringo band to whom we danced and sang along with,we had a great night
Last night we went to the movies and saw part 1 of the final Harry Potter movie......the kids wanted to go and so did I as I really enjoyed the books when i read them earlier in the year. It was great.
The city of La Paz offers all the services of most any big city but is unique in that it is still very laid back and the people all very friendly. We are yet to experience (and hope not too) the Mexico that is portrayed in the media and to date have felt very safe & welcome here and comfortable about leaving the boat unattended.
We will remain here for the next few days as we are having the uv covers on the sails re-stitched as the price for having this done was very cheap compared to any-where else we have been.
Thanksgiving as you are probably aware is a big deal in the USA and we are looking forward to our 1st one on Thursday.
We will then head out to the nearby islands and anchorages for a week or so of exploring before we head back down the coast to our departure point for our trip across the Sea of Cortez (about 200nm) to Mazatlan on the Mexico Pacific coast and then on to our planned XMAS stopover at La Cruz near Puerto Vallarta where we will join a group of friends for our 2nd Christmas away from home.
I will be updating the PHOTO GALLERY with shots of our anchorages between Cabo San Lucas and here so keep an eye out for them.
