Galapagos Continued
12 March 2012 | Isla San Cristobal - Bahia Baquerizo Moreno
John
Gidday All,
We have now been in the Galapagos Island (also known as The Enchanted Islands ) for 2 weeks where we intend to remain for about another 2 weeks before the big passage to the Marquises.
The cruising boats just keep on coming , when we arrived there were only about 6 and tonight there are at least 30 ! They are a mostly mono hulls and a few multihulls plus one powerboat. They range in size from as small as 28ft up to about 70 feet and there are at least 3 single handed sailors in the group. Given that there are at least 50 or so intending to depart from Mexico (including our friends Mark and Jenny from Southport on their new boat Condesa Del Mar who we can`t wait to see) and many more coming from Panama plus those that have already departed here for French Polynesia I guess that there will be at least 300 yachts that cross the Pacific this season !
Tomorrow we will depart Puerto Baquerizo Moreno , San Cristobal Island where we have spent the last 2 weeks for the next of the Galapagos Islands , Isla Santa Cruz , which is only a day sail away.
We have enjoyed our stay here where we spent our time exploring, surfing, snorkeling, swimming , ( Leanne has been doing yoga and going for runs in the afternoon) , doing boat jobs , watching and mimicking the seals , and having some nice meals in the restaurant's. (see the Galapagos Adventures Album / Isla San Cristobal , in the photo gallery , I just added another 60 pictures)
It has been nice just calling a water taxi on the radio and getting transferred to the shore for just $1.00 rather than having to take the dinghy. The competition between taxis is fierce at times with as many as 3 boats racing to get the fare ! Our favorite driver Bonay has looked after us well and whenever possible we have chosen his service. We have had to keep the dinghy out of the water as the seals here are quick to board and claim any vessel that they can and they leave quite mess behind not to mention the smell !
Our agent Bolivar who arrange for our permission to visit and all of the official clearances has been wonderful and we highly recommend his services.
We have been rejoined by our old friends from Perfect wave who arrived 2 days ago and who are going to join us and our other old mates Nick & Lynne as well as their stowaway Hannah.
Lots to see and do at Santa Cruz so we are looking forward to more exploring and expect to be there for about a week. If the internet there is good we will update you again in a week or so !
Hope you are all happy and healthy ,
John , Leanne & Matt.
