Putting things in order
17 March 2010 | St. Martin, French side
Hot - gorgeous - did I mention hot?
The past few days have been busy with organizing, cleaning, making lists, and shopping. There is a lot to do and any number of things for us to get used to. The gentleman we bought the boat from and his staff COULD NOT be better to us and have been helpful in any number of ways large and small helping us put things in order.
~replacing the old mainsail pulley and re-running the reefing points on the main
~arranging for Propane tank refill
~taking me shopping at the local Budget Marine!
~arranging for an electrician to be here today for the addition of another house battery.
Later when we took a ride in the dingy we ran into our electrician, out in the harbor, we both stopped our engines and discussed the new battery, and the box that needs to be built to accommodate it and it's brother in our engine room, all while drifting amongst the boats and piers.. Then he handed me a Budget Marine catalog that he picked up for me. Kind of like stopping in the middle of the road to do business - all a part of the cruising life...
Found the Ace Hardware megacenter...could be my new favorite store after Budget. Everything you can expect, plus a second story of housewares and misc, a coffee pot for Jim, storage baskets for me and all manner of random items. The people here are lovely and helpful. Yesterday, I arranged with the marina office to borrow their pickup truck to go and collect our crate that was shipped down, sometime this week. Can I rent a pickup?? No rent they say, just take it..let us know when you need it and it's ok. Like I said - lovely people.
Last night we finally, got the EPRIB registered (emergency find us if we get lost thing) and I did a little misc work (yes - real work... I am having a hard time letting go!) -then had a very pleasant evening being serenaded by our boat neighbor playing guitar and singing for quite a while. We are getting acclimatized, slowly.
Sorry there are no pictures, but after 1000lbs (literally!) of clothes, provisions and gear, one thing I forgot to bring was the camera to computer cable....and here I consider myself organized! I'll be getting it in a week or so by extra special courier...
