There were 2 things the Macs wanted to do out of the glossy travel brochures; a dive at Lanykaan island and visit the turtle nesting island Sillangaan off Sandakan. So after a couple of days cruising along the north Borneo Coast we headed 30 miles out to Lanykaan for a night and a couple of dives with the resort
Ashore we went and asked at the dive centre if we could do some dives Yes, no problem was the answer. It was about $60 each including the hire of the gear, sweet, you need to go to reception to register so off we went and asked if we could also come for dinner as well, no problem $30 per person buffet great. So we register and then they tell us we must pay a park fee $20 each. Well if that's the way it is ok (remember there are 8 on board so this is all starting to add up !)THEN they say to do a dive come ashore and buy dinner and use the facilities we would have to pay another $70 EACH, but Ash and Cam were half price. With this we see red tell the lady to go and see the manager and check it out. She returns saying this is correct. So refusing to pay $660 just to be there, before we even dive or have dinner, we left and went and snorkeled on the reef for the afternoonand then left for another anchorage. WHAT a bloody rip off, why didn't they just say yachties aren't welcome. The year before friends of ours stayed on their mooring for 3 days and only paid $20 rental WHAT GOES?
