Not so excited!
26 July 2013
It was decided to take a trip into the interior into the Kitabangan river national park so after organizing some one to stay on the boat the night we left. It was about a 3 hour drive in through palm oil plantations all the way. We stayed in a homestay by the river which was a bit of and experience in itself we had a few laughs at Olivia’s and Tracy’s expense ( a little bit RAW for them I think ) and went on evening and morning river boat trip to see the wildlife. If you hadn’t seen real jungle you might have been impressed but even here the whole top canopy layer of trees had been logged out years ago (Virgin jungle my ass, but that’s how they sell it ). We saw some proboscis and macaque monkeys a snake in a tree but no pigmy elephants, and the whole time you felt like the palm oil plantations were just a couple of hundred meters behind the river bank. Sure enough when you looked on google earth there they were. As you went up the main river, on the way to the next creek to explore, one whole side right to the river bank was palm oil.
A VERY SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS INDEED!!!!!
