Louisiades

Well, we're back. Inspired, grateful, discombobulated. Three weeks in the Louisiades has been a real highlight of our time with Resolute, not to be forgotten. We sailed with long time sailing buddies, Mike and Prue, and in convoy with sister Georgina and partner Dave, on their Seawind 1160, 'Nimrod', [...]

Faarrrr North Queensland

Madam Cupcake took off her socks! Must be HOT, DAMM HOT, says I. We're in Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island (near Townsville, for those of you about to reach for the chart..).

Are we there yet?

We go north-er. Queenslanders become, impossibly, friendlier. Land of pristine beaches, stunning inlets, glorious sunsets, fierce tides and GLADSTONE. Gute Trauer! Endless lines of ships. Coal. LNG. Alumina. Did someone hit the hyperspace button??

The most glorious place on earth

We arrived. We met Queenslanders. They told jokes. To whit ... 'and said God: "That's Queensland, the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful people, impressive towns; it is the home of the world's finest artists, musicians, writers, thinkers, explorers and politicians. The people from Queensland [...]

In search of sunshine

Don't you love a great quote? How's this: 'Bizarre travel plans are dancing lessons from God' ~Kurt Vonnegut. Way to go, Kurt! Just about sums up this latest trip....

Rocky start to Masterchef, Season 2.

It's the much anticipated Series 2 Masterchef South Pacific cookoff ... struggling to find form. Where's the spice? Its not looking promising. First up, Glenda, the crowd favourite, failed to show. AVHD, meanwhile, failed to cook. Just barked orders to the kitchen hands from the wheelhouse, for jonah's [...]

Nothing .. happening

Not a particularly newsworthy day, but I'm so happy with the world, (well, our part of the world) .... I want to tell you about our lazy day. Nothing happened. We DID welcome Tricia Paul and Darragh aboard. Not sure for how long. We're so relaxed now, details like how many days don't seem to matter anymore. It did entail several coffees at the waterfront cafe of Yachting World to finalise the shopping list and then the shopping required 4 taxis, 5 of us dividing and conquering but actually only making it 5 times more complicated. Noo, I'm  jesting, it was easy. We lunched on gorgeous French cheeses and baguettes, bbq chicken and local salad  greens stuffing our little faces full with the delicacies ..

Han just texted us to say Jack had caught a 45kg fish (species unknown) and that Sael had insisted they stay longer in the village. I am scratching my head wondering how on earth they are managing in this tiny village in the hills, only about 30 mins drive from where we are now. She' s so close geographically but oh so far culturally. Such a fab experience for them, but one I'd avoid if I could myself.  Feck as the Irish say, 3 nights...  no way.  Any bet they'll be invited to Friday's  village wedding. Me thinks all good as long as Han and Jack don't get mistaken for the bride and groom!! oooh aah

So back to the boat, we set sail after lunch, our destination being Hideaway Bay where we had had such a good time with the kids last week. It's the Marine Park where we swam with schools and schools of fish. Right now enjoying sundowny drinks, moored alongside the mother of all stink boats which, we discovered by google, rents for $175,000 per week. It's name is Exuma. It  comes with its own floating hummer, a reptilian 4 wheel drive thingy which you can drive thru the water from the boat and then straight onto land and the road!!! AND a jacuzzi AND a gym on board.  Woah! Who cares. I'd rather be on Resolute .. I'm quite attached now, much to Ken's amusement. I think he's seeing me in a new light and about bloody time. Jeez I'm turning Irish. NEWSFLASH!! We just learned Prince Albert and Charlene were on the boat beside us, presumably 'still radiant with happiness a year after their big day' .. shite ,Why didn't I go knocking?? They've already gone, early departure this am. But, according to the locals it was them. We're just trying to call our friends in Monaco to check. Back soon!

One more thing I've been meaning to add is that the ocean swimming we do whenever were out of port like today, is rather an incredible sensation. The water is cool, definitely not warm, but it feels extraordinary. Maybe I've spent too long in Lane Cove pool, but I reckon it's velvety. So soft and silky.. divine. Once in, I never want to get out cos it feels so floaty. Just fresh, clean and gorgeous. I am soo unfit now it's a shame... the hardest thing probably to deal with about cruising, but I know, I know, I'm not complaining.

That's it. Nothing more to report. Just a perfectly lovely day with a lazy hour long sail to our latest  mooring, which will be home for the next 2 nights. BBQ tonight and a fiesty game of Articulate. The Irish are soaking it all up. It's their first time for any nautical adventure of this kind, apart from our honeymoon, where together 24 years ago we all spent a week on a charter in the Whitsundays. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, they're looving it!!!
