Adventure of a lifetime

Sailing round the world....slowly

Back in Florida

We were sitting over coffee, checking our emails and the morning weather and wind conditions, and both realised that the best winds for heading south were...today. So we decided to go for it. Allan had let us borrow the car, so we went and got our gas bottles filled and then did a quick trip to Walmart for heavier items seeing as we had a car.
Raced back to boat, bid a hasty goodbye to Allan & Cathy and caught the 1100 opening of the bridge a mile down the creek.
And then it was another 20nm before we were out to the ocean! Then we turned South. Had to motor sail for longer than we expected on the genoa, but by midnight the wind had filled in, we hoisted the main and ran on reefed main and just a little genoa.
We had a fast passage from then and managed to catch the tide entering Jacksonville channel. Glad we had it with us, we were doing 9 kts!! So about 3.5kts of current. Then, surprisingly, we had current with us for the next 25nm all the way down the ICW.
Now we are tucked up in a little tributary all by ourselves, just watching the rest of the boats pass by on the ICW. We are about 6nm from St Augustine, but really wanted a nice quiet place to anchor and after 164nm we wete both ready to stop. It is so beautiful here and peaceful here
