Adventure of a lifetime

Sailing round the world....slowly

The Cut

Departed 0745 this morning in order to catch slack tide going through current cut. Apparently there can be up to 10kts of current through the narrow opening at the top of Eluethera Island. So of course we had great sailing at 5-6 kts instead of the 4kts we thought, so we were going to arrive too early. We furled in some headsail and slowed down to 3kts for the last hour. We watched a couple boats go through before slack tide and they had 4 kts with them. So we went in just before slack tide and had an extra kt of current pushing us along. It was calm and flat so a quick and easy passage through.
Then, once we were through and heading towards Hatchet Bay, the wind was on the nose and there was a slight slop in the seas. It wasnt very strong wind though so we managed to motor at about 4.2kts. Every so often the wind would turn slightly allowing us to put out some heady and increase our speed to 5kts. That would last 20mins or so and then it would come back on the nose.
Entered Hatchet Bay and there were already 10 boats at anchor. There is a very nasty blow coming Monday & Tuesday so lots of boats are tucking up in here. We anchored at the back of the mob towards the shore. There is plenty of depth, we did a lot of circles checking depth before dropping anchor. Will assess of anchor spot in the morning when the wind changes direction
