Oven Rock

Another 4nm south today to arrive at Oven Rock. We anchored just N of the 'oven rock' in 3.7m at high tide. The bottom is a bit rocky and hard sand, so best ensure your anchor is dug in well. Lots of room though. It is the closest anchorage from which to explore the cave and windward side of the island. So once Destiny arrived (Manon and Francis) we went ashore and hiked up to the cave. It's quite a large cave inside, but you can't go very far inside unless you are going to dive it. It is filled with water, but we certainly weren't going to swim in it, let alone dive it. The water was clear, but very dark! It was a beautiful entrance though. From there we walked over to the windward side of the cay - the surf was still pounding in although not as strong as the other day, as the winds are starting to ease! Back at our anchorage, the beach is not as inviting as it is mostly rock and then soft sand, and there is only one suitable place to bring the dinghy up onto the beach that isn't covered in rock. Oven rock is pretty amazing, with a big hole on the N side (suggesting the look of an oven) and a large eagle nest on the top. Still worth the visit for the cave and hike
