Adventure of a lifetime

Sailing round the world....slowly

Calabash Bay

Welcome to Long Island where Christopher Columbus anchored on the 17th October 1492.
Had a slow sail 28nm across as we just used the genoa and were able to make a direct approach to the southern entrance through the reef. This entrance was clear and easy with good depths. The bay is huge and you can anchor anywhere within, but we chose to head up to the N side, closer to the resort. Oops were anchored already, but we anchored further out due to our depth.
Destiny came up to join us the following day and we had a great couple of days together celebrating Phil's birthday with many good dinners. We hiked to the Columbus monument and to "busted bridge" (which is now fixed and the area done up to make a nice bar and grill)
We enjoyed a few days in here, but once again, it's quite windy and so getting wet in the dinghy is the norm.
The resort welcomes cruisers to their bar for food and drinks and have to be the friendliest staff we've come across.(The barman kept topping up my glass with left over pina colada mix he'd made for other people)
