Mike Connolly. Windy very windy
Managed to figure out the wiring on my bilge pumps last night and now have the two of them fully operational from the switch panel. Yippe and only several hours work. Again I struggle to understand why even an easy job requires several attempts and takes about four times longer than you would expect it to take.
Other news associated to the bilge pumps is that the leak from the stern tube has slowed right down and the bilge only requires the odd pump. The forward end of the boat only suffers from a slight seep from one of the through hull fittings and doesnt require any attention.
Still waiting for a date to get the boat lifted to attend to the stern tube and still waiting for pricing for the rigging work. I'm thinking of tackling some it it myself this weekend as it cant be that hard. Managed to pick up a 1 year old rubber duck tender the other night for a bargain price. It has only been used four times and cost me 50% of the original price. I will need to get my old Yamaha outboard sorted to drive it. Other than that I think I have stumbled across a second hand roller furler at the yacht club through some of my pals in the local brokerage there. I priced a new one and excluding the modification to the genoa worked out at R26k, whilst I think I can get the second hand one for a couple of grand. It look more or less the right size but I will try and go out tonight to measure up against my genoa on the grass. With a bit of luck it wont need too much in the way of modification. Dont think the riggers will be too impressed when I ask them to fit it. Toughies to them....
I also have found a chap who has 8 old instruments and some other maritime equipment which he is looking to sell. Have to try a bit harder this week to get out to see him as it is much cheaper to get second hands units and fit when Im readt rather that the option to purchase new one.
