Corinth Canal
18 September 2010 | Ionian to Aegean
Lee and Kevin - good and windy
We left at the crack of dawn on 17 Sept and transited the Corinth Canal. We arrived shortly after 11:30 but had to wait almost 2 hours for our transit position behind a large ship. The canal was quite narrow, with less than 2' on either side of the ship at times! The sides were relatively steep, with several very high bridges crossing over it. We were surprised at the soft crumbling sides of the canal...and the depth supposedly kept to 7 mts - fooled us as our depth finder alarm kept going off as the ship ahead of us sent up so much sand and mud. Alas once through (at a cost of 222 Euros) we were sailing the Aegean Sea! Now Revilo is tied up stern to with the anchor out on the town wharf in Poros - a lovely spot!
