Since there are not that many schooners sailing nowadays, one notices immediately when seeing another one.
After anchoring Issuma, we rowed over to the lovely, classic wooden schooner Destiny, at anchor in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Bahia de Banderas, Mexico. We were warmly greeted by Mike and Deb, who, over the course of several years, lovingly and meticulously restored Destiny in Port Townsend, WA, and then sailed her down to Mexico.
It is hard to see in the distance, because it aligns with the top of the mountains, but Destiny has a topsail yard (horizontal spar on the forward mast) from which a square sail is set, making her a topsail schooner.
