Lynn
After a beautiful sail from St. Barts we arrived in St. Eustatius about 4 PM. As it is Easter, the harbormaster and customs folks have the day off, so we raised the "Q" flag and will spend the night on the boat to check in tomorrow. The guide book said there were several public mooring available, but many of them were filled with local boats or were missing. The one we saw looked in questionable condition, so we decided to use our new Rocna anchor for our first overnight. We set the anchor, I dove to make sure it was set (it set perfectly) and saw a small ray and a puffer fish.
St. Eustatius has a big oil processing facility and there are huge tankers all around. Some of them pump oil in floating hoses to shore, so we made certain we gave them all a lot of space.
There is a huge party going on at the beach. Good Friday and Easter Monday are holidays here, and the local people seem to be having a great time. There are at least 3, sometime 4 bands trying to out loud each other and all we can hear is the bass. It seems the Latin band is winning the volume contest with the hip hop coming in a close second. I has just started to rain, so maybe things will slow down.
Tomorrow we will clear in and do some exploring.
