The Wonders of St. Bart's

We were able to spend three days on St. Bart's. Our mooring site was about a mile from Gustavia, the main town in St. Bart's. I visited the town three times the first day ... to get parts to fix a blocked toilet hose. We ended up replacing the toilet outlet hose. The job took all day, but we once again have a working toilet. So thankful for indoor plumbing!
On Friday we both visited Gustavia. There are many famous designer stores in Gustaiva. It was fun to look in the windows and see all the strange stuff fashionable people are supposed to wear. After a great lunch, we headed back to Riparian in Anse du Colombier and spent the afternoon snorkeling with the turtles. We saw several turtles and a few rays right near our boat.
Saturday, we hiked to the town of Flamands on a well marked trails from Anse du Colombier. It was a good hike to town, but we decided that we would like to hike to a resturaunt called Les Bananiers recommended by some friends. From Flamands, my google maps said it was 4000 feet to Les Bananiers, so JoAnn and I decided to add a little extra to the hike. What we quickly found out is that the walk also included about 1000 feet of elevation gain. We reached the top of the hill, and found Les Bananiers closed. Fortunately the bakery next door was open and we had fresh pan-au-chocolat and croissants. After a rest at the bakery, we returned to the boat for another swim.
Checking the weather, we found that Easter Sunday would be a great day to continue to St. Eustatius. I took the dingy back to Gustaiva, bought some groceries, and cleared out of St. Bart’s.
We really enjoyed St. Barts and plan to return to spend more time exploring when we can.
