Stopping Traffic

We may move slower, be less comfortable, run aground more readily (see next paragraph), but one thing sailboats can do better than anybody else - stop traffic for drawbridges. The bridge shown opening is actually a swing bridge. Our boat draws 6 feet of water, so any depth less than 6' is, well, bad. We hit bottom in the Intracoastal Waterway just after passing the swing bridge. There was some shoaling on the left side of the channel. We sat for about an hour until the tide lifted us a few inches. We grounded a few hours after low tide, so all that was required was a little patience. High tide is a particularly poor time to run aground, for obvious reasons. We should be hitting Virginia tonight, and on into the Chesapeake tomorrow. The ICW is getting a little boring and slow.
