Pip. Silversmith

18 September 2007 | Our container, Port Napoleon
Hot and clear, but cold at night
Pip has set up her workshop in the container. She has been working on a commission for Melanie; two pendants of sailing sloops based on Mel's drawing of Nepthunuus, Fiona's 27' Nova. Melanie wants them really small, which is an extra challenge.
It makes quite a nice workshop. The entrance faces south, away from the mistral, so it gets pretty hot. With a long line, there's electricity, and Pip has been enjoying having a proper workspace which she can leave set up. (Both of us get tired of the necessity to clear away tools/computers/papers or whatever at the end of every day, and it's always a little holiday to have the chance to spread out.)
The tool she is using is a pendant drill. We bought it from Robert of Mabs, at anchor in Alvor, Portugal. Robert was swallowing the anchor and selling a lot of stuff; he had been a jeweller in his youth, and we were all happy with the deal on this drill and his microflame. (Except for Sarah in her capacity as stowage queen, but there we go.) It's a very neat piece of kit.
