Gibraltar's Rock is a sad disappointment. You can't blame the tourist authorities for the enveloping fog. But there was nothing up there except one of the worst caf�'s we've been in for a long time. And some aggressive apes.
How different is Hong Kong. The view's stunning, though the smog spoils it a bit. The real difference is in the two huge shopping malls, with loads of restaurants and bars. They suit all tastes and pockets, from the very fancy Australian/Asian to the cheap and cheerful Juice Bar. And they're mostly not chains either. Like many of the shops, they are locally owned, making a distinctive offer to people who've made the effort.
There is an extraordinary 'sky deck' which we didn't bother with (it costs extra), but makes a nice picture in its own right. The whole area was packed, and people were spending with gusto. And at the same time, the actual slopes of the Peak are an important conservation area.
Apart from sore feet, alleviated by buying two pairs of shoes, it was a great experience.
