New Friends & Good Times

Well this is my last full day here, catching the ferry back to Tokyo tomorrow. It's been a month of mostly hard work (repairing three sails and the bimini top, working through generator problems, etc. etc.) but we've done some hiking the past couple of days and had an awesome dinner last night with our new friend Tsu and his family. Fresh-caught tako & squid, yakitori, salad, rice, and more -- and hot sake rounded out the menu. I think I can safely say that a good time was had by all.
We were pretty tired after our five hour hike through the forest and down to Hatsuneura Beach, which is only accessible by walking down a steep trail, or by boat. I think a boat would have been the better option because I counted the steps on the way out and there were around 800 of them. Some were about 30 inches high. My legs were like jelly last night. Our packs were pretty heavy because we took snorkel gear and lunch and water and towels, thinking we would snorkel, but of course it was raining and cloudy when we got down there and it just didn't seem too appealing. I don't think Rob was very happy because I made him carry my wetsuit in his pack. :)
Rob will wait for the life raft and try to get the generator running smoothly again before taking off for Hawaii. Still don't know if he'll have any crew. Any volunteers?
I started a new photo album for Chichi Jima, but I'll post another photo here.
