Off the dock!
17 August 2019 | Underway, passing Useless Bay, WA, USA
Eric Ahlvin
We left Shilshole Bay Marina at 10:58 AM, Saturday, 8/17/19.
The last few days have been a whirlwind of preparations. Peter arrived Wednesday and started to help out immediately. Kristin lives in Ballard and was able to come out to the boat to help with prep the last couple of days. We had a farewell dock party Thursday night and gave away the odds and ends that didnât fit on the boat and said goodbye to our friends. Frankie arrived from Florida late on Thursday night. Friday was the last day and we were busy with help from the crew and Dan from morning until dusk.
Some friends and family came to see us off this morning and we stopped at the pumpout and the fuel dock on the way out of the marina. All tanks are full, except the holding tank, which is empty.
Weather has been warm and eventually got sunny as we motored up Puget Sound.
We had a meeting with all hands (there are six on board) and hammered out details about roles, responsibilities, watches, standing ordersâ¦
Weâve got a lot of experience on board with four licensed Captains. Iâll be the Captain; Ben will be first mate; Frankie and Kristen will be 2/thirds mates; Linda will be the Bosun and Peter will be the Senior Deckhand. Weâll be using a Swedish watch system, and started watches (and naps for off watch crew at 2 pm).
A nice start, weâre hoping for enough wind to sail soon.
