Bison and "a noisy bar in Avalon"

While we were at Isthmus Cove we went ashore and took a walk across the Isthmus to Catalina Harbor. Unfortunately, this trip we didn’t see any bison. According to Wikipedia: “This herd of American Bison roam and were supposedly first imported to California's Catalina Island in 1924 for the silent film version of Zane Grey's Western tale, The Vanishing American.”

When I was on the Hawaiian Chieftain in 2017 the crew brought the ship over to Isthmus Cove for a Christmas celebration, and I was lucky enough to see a bison. This time, they must have been elsewhere.

After a couple of days at Isthmus Cove, we moved the boat over to Avalon Harbor. It’s been on my bucket list to go to the “noisy bar in Avalon” mentioned in Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills and Nash. The internet disagrees on exactly which bar, but our Southern California guide, Peter, recommended Luau Larry’s. It was definitely noisy, the beer was cold and we can check that item off the list.

It was a pleasant night and Linda slept in the cockpit until the dew came. Here’s a photo of her view from the cockpit at night, and some of those lights are Luau Larry’s.
