Albatrosses feeding and a show at sundown

07 July 2023
Clark
The bit of mal de mer on board has faded to less or none depending on
the crewmember. Appetites are beginning return. We are enjoying good
trade wind sailing with occasional brief mild squalls and wind direction
shifts that have required some sailing accommodation and zipping up the
bimini and windshield at times due to light rain.Night sailing has been
mostly by moonlight. We did do one jibe in the dark without moonlight
with red head-lamps which was fun. Albatrosses are occasionally being
seen, of the smaller variety, the younger ones darker colored than the
whiter adults. A group of 50+ of albatross with some other unidentified
bird species were seen circling in the air and diving into the water
feeding on small fish yesterday. I later got some nice photos of
albatrosses gracefully gliding above the swells at sunset today. We are
seeing occasional flying fish gliding above the water trying to escape
predators. We are today, 7/7/23, about 350 nautical miles from our
present destination of Avatiu, Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

Morale remains high.
