Naps, Boggle and Bananagrams
Today was another mix of rain and waiting for rain, opening portholes
for fresh air, and closing them when the mists/rain arrived. The
interior of Rover was our refuge today, sitting here in Refuge Bay
adjacent to the town of Nieafu.
I joined this journey a little over a month ago and except for a half
dozen days or so, weather has been the main character in this South
Pacific odyssey. In the first part of my trip we were out in the vast
blue sea avoiding weather and skirting systems. Since Katie and Mike
have been aboard the threat of high winds and the inconvenience of
reliably persistent showers has impinged seriously on our fun.
Not to be dissuaded, (and mostly due to Katieâs infectious good nature),
we have had a pleasant time nonetheless captive as it were in our cozy
water home.
Today, in the spirit of Ahlvin tradition (Iâve learned) there were
games. I was up top reading in the cockpit and heard much frivolity and
fun being had and âbananaâ something or other being shouted from time to
time.
Making things more enjoyable is Mikeâs prowess in the kitchen. A
wonderful dinner was had up top in the cockpit (yes, rain stoped long
enough). Not to be outdone and excelling in her gastronomic niche, we
enjoyed some sweet squares Katie baked yesterday for dessert, and a
delicious salmon sandwich lunch earlier in the day.
Although things are damp, our spirits are not. I just wished that Katie
and Mike had a bit better weather for their annual vacation from work. I
have enjoyed meeting them and are grateful to have been so welcome by
the Ahlvinâs. Itâs been a most memorable trip, sadly cut short. Thanks
SV Rover. Thanks Eric.
