Pacific High

11 August 2010
Crew
Morning started at 0530 with the sun cresting the horizon shining through bellowing clouds in orange, white and black in color against the deep blue Pacific Waters. A beautiful time to be on watch. We run Wind Child 24/7 to continue our voyage from Hawaii to Sequim WA. Today we have nearly traveled 1000 nautical miles since leaving Hawaii - a major milestone. We are still heading North around a large High Pressure area that extends to the Northern Tip of Vancouver Island. We hope it will move South to enable us to head East before we reach 48 latitude. We have motored for 24 hours and project motoring this evening. We hope to sail tomorrow.

The Pacific has been like a glass mirror. Looking out to the Horizon it seems that we are on magnificent glass table top that is colored a deep indigo blue and at the end of the table top the water falls over a cliff. We can appreciate what some of the sailors thought before they realized the Earth was round like a ball.

Rob came up with a brilliant idea that we stop in mid ocean and go for a swim-A great refreshing idea. We swam in comfortable swimming pool temperature water and had a fun time. Later we all took a shower on the transom of Wind Child. What a refreshing break.

Following our swim we were greeted with the wonderful aroma of fresh baked banana bread and chocolate chip cookies courtesy of our skipper Rudy. Thanks Rudy they certainly are Scrumptious and GOOD!!

At 1630 local we caught another Mahi Mahi - a 15 pounder this time - a beautiful fish. So we are looking forward to some more sushi and barbecued fish dinners.

At 1800 when we were setting down for dinner Rob yelled "Dolphins", a school were jumping in a frenzy about 300 yards behind us. We turned the boat 180 degrees to get a closer. They begin to move away from us. We watch them feed and play in the distance for about 15 minutes until we had to return to our course.

All is well aboard Wind Child and a rainbow is off our port side. We just started sailing. We will see how far the wind will take us. Still going North to circle the High pressure zone that does not have wind.
