Intrepid Travels

The final countdown to the departure was frantic and we ran out of time to do many things, including keeping the blog up to date, hence the late entry now (from mid-ocean). One highlight before we left was the fancy dress party, themed 'Tales of the Arabian Nights' (each year, the theme is chosen by the people of Las Palmas). With advance warning and with a little time to prepare, we decided to keep it simple, easy and minimalist. Whilst in England, I dragged my mother from one market stall to the other, looking for suitable baggy trousers for both of us. These, teamed with an improvised head piece for Robert and Christmas decoration beads for jewellery, and we were set. We felt very comfortable (and not too silly), as we walked along the wharf to our destination, where the rest of the crews were similarly attired, some difficult to recognise in dark glasses and interesting head gear. It was a night of fun with multilingual conversations and dancing to many old favourites!
