Intrepid Travels

Yesterday, we headed up the West coast of Grenada and into the Atlantic once more, fighting with current, wind and swell as we rounded the northern tip of the island. In the distance, we could see our destination as well as the numerous islets and rocks that litter the passage, such as The Sisters, The Aunts, Kick-em Jenny and Bonaparte Rocks. As we have come to expect, it was a fast few hours of sailing! We arrived in Tyrrel Bay on the west coast of Carriacou in strong winds but flat seas and soon found a good spot to drop anchor in this large bay.
Today, I ventured ashore alone with trolley, in search of Rufus, a local farmer who brings his produce in to the small settlement around the bay. Sitting behind him on the step outside his shop was an older white American lady who seemed to be acting as his calculator, adding up the cost of all the items I selected! Rufus is a gem, so wise, so gentle and so welcoming. I soon had a trolley overflowing with beautiful fresh produce.
Our day was completed by a long walk along Paradise Beach, watching the locals relax and the children frolic and play, and then dinner at a beachside shack, where Frankie cooked us fresh tuna with local spices.
