Boat race: Regate de yoles
In the meantime, we are making the most of the time and had a day out on Thursday, catching the local 'taxi-collectifs' (TCs) from Marin to Le Vauclin and on to Le Francois, where we had a Creole meal looking out over the Atlantic coast. The TCs have a very rough schedule but essentially depart when there are enough people on board to make it a viable journey. It is impossible to be in a hurry to get anywhere and you just have to go with the flow. Travelling this way is always interesting and gives us a glimpse of local life on the islands. On a separate trip, we took the dinghy over to Ste Anne and spent two very pleasant hours walking in the forests and mangroves along the beach going south/west.
We met up with Atraxia again, sad to hear that they sustained major damage to their old wooden mast on another island crossing and are mast-less and wondering how to rescue the situation. They have been very helpful with advice about possible over-wintering options for IE later this year.
