EXUMA FINAL PREPARATIONS

17 April 2016 | Palm Cay Marina
Friday-Sunday, April 15-17, 2016

Pirate Dick and Fair Maiden Judy arrived in Nassau and the Palm Cay Marina mid-afternoon on Friday. I had a mechanic scheduled at 3:00 to change oil and replace a shift lever casing that I brought with me.

For a variety of reasons, Michael the mechanic did not arrive until 4:30 to inform us that he had an emergency and would not be able to do the work until Saturday during his lunch hour and then late afternoon. Oh Well - in normal times, I might find myself frustrated - but it is "island time" and we are going to be here for 6 weeks - what's another day??

Michael did accomplish the tasks on Saturday and we began settling in and determining final provisioning. With the forecast for rain and northeast winds of 20-25 knots, we felt that we would have plenty of time on Sunday to finish our tasks.

So here on Sunday afternoon, with virtually all of the prep tasks accomplished, we have been listening to Sirrius NBA and following the Cavs first playoff victory over the Pistons!! GO CAVS!!

While we have had several extended "Lady J" adventures, each one requires an adjustment - shifting from our normally busy and intense schedules to preparing for life on a 41 ft sailboat for the next 6 weeks - in one of our paradise settings. We have been dreaming about extended time in the Exumas aboard the "Lady J" with no time pressures for years. And this adventure is the result of our intentional decision to treat my first year of "retirement" as a "sabbatical transition" - time to reflect on the past and time to contemplate the future - all from the blue skies and colorful waters of the Bahamas.
