Darrell and Nicki both took ASA classes at Tradewinds Sailing School in Richmond, California. After learning the ropes on various charter boats they purchased thier first beater boat, a Coronado 30, in 2002 and joined the Vallejo Yacht Club. [...] After taking the plunge and moving up to a Coronado 45 in 2008, they have logged hundreds of miles of sailing in the San Francisco Bay, Southern California Coast, Oregon, Galveston Bay and the British Virgin Islands. After joining Encinal Yacht Club in 2010 the whole family became very active in racing. Darrell, Nicki and Marcus became a regular part of the EYC Race Commitee while Curtis took to racing on other boats.

Curtis started sailing at 2 years of age. He has helmed 23 and 30 foot boats since age 5 and drove his first Coast Guard 45' Cutter at age 7. Today he helms a Coronado 15, Coronado 45 and crews on the Farr 36 'Red Cloud' in YRA and Encinal Yacht club races

Marcus started sailing at 6 months of age and follows his brothers sailing career, but his interests are more in the destination of the sail than racing. He currently crews and helms Coronado 15's, 45's and works Signal Flags for the Encinal Yacht Club Racing Committee.

Porthos (a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) started sailing at 6 months of age and does his best to keep the decks clear of wildlife and ensures that no one gets too cold on passages.
