Hi Everyone,
We're back doing the boat thing. We've been in Thailand now for a month and what do we have to show for ourselves you may ask? Well, we now have a bonifide rowing, sailing dinghy, just like the real cruisers. Mike built the boat from plans that avowed to take 24 hours, ha! Faulty plans. After two weeks of construction, we have an awesome customized dinghy with many special added features. This dingy greatly improves the quality of our life and liberates us from marina's allowing us to anchor out. We now have a way to transport provisions, and people to and from a dock or beach with ease (technically speaking). While Mike's been building the dingy, I've been sharpening my skills as a nautical domestic engineer. My projects have been sewing sail covers, hatch covers and upholstering barstools. In addition, I've been baking cookies, bread, making homemade pizza's, and in my free time I've been nesting by decorating the cabin interior with ichiban flora vases and arrangements. While we've been busy working and slaving on the dock, we also hired two welders and a sail maker. We're having davits built to hold the dinghy, stern railings to keep us on the boat, a jib boom and a new jib sail being made because Mikes completely redesigned the rigging (safety first!). As usual, we are under tight time constraints; our visa runs out in 5 days. Thailand wants us checked out on June 5, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that all our stuff will be finished and done to perfection so we may pick it up on our way to the Port Captain. Our next destination will be back to Langkawi, Malaysia the land of "Duty Free", good food and wine.
This about sums "What's up" for Rum Doxy. Don't hesitate to e-mail and let us know what's going on with you. It means so much to us to stay in touch and remain connected, despite the physical distance. Check out the photo gallery under "Building the Dinghy" for more details.
All my love to family and friends,
Annette
