Fish!

Since our landfall in Kodiak it's been a non stop adventure with some boat repair and maintenance in between. We are currently holed up for the day due to weather, so I have a moment to sit down and write a piece for the blog. We found refuge in a secluded little anchorage which feels just like a high mountain lake surrounded by rugged snow capped peaks blankets of ceder and spruce trees, and lies deep in the bellows of a fjord in Prince William Sound. But we are not alone, Along with another small boat, there are otters, seals, bears, eagles, and lots of salmon all cohabiting in this tiny inlet. I never thought Rum Doxy would be up here in Latitude 60*. Yesterday we meandered our way passed Icebergs, and through âBergy Bitsâ in pursuit of Glaciers. It was like sailing through a âmargarita on the rocksâ, chucks and beautiful ice sculptures all around us, however, as we got closer to the glacier the temperature dropped considerably and the quantity of ice increased to the point where we didn't dare go further. We came with in a mile of two spectacular icy blue glaciers. You can see the motion frozen in these enormous cascading ice fields. The highlight for today was I caught 3 salmon, 2 Chum and 1 Pink! The best part was all I had to do I was catch them. The young couple from the other boat in our anchorage, Christen and Bix, not only showed us the spring where to catch the fish but they brought the poles and hooks, cutting board and knife, and plastic bags to put the filets into to bring back. Bix did everything for me except toss the line and reel it in. I finally got my fish wish, and have room in the freezer to enjoy them for a long time to come.. So far Alaska has been the highlight of our cruising adventure. The grandeur of Alaska's rugged wilderness and wildlife is captivating and alluring, a constant stimulation of scenery so beautiful and pristine and a wildlife experience so natural it is a gift only you are seeing at that very moment.
