5-13 We arrived at Portsmouth on the north west side of Dominica. The island is very lush as as a result of what we witnessed durring five straight days of rain while there (at least we filled the water tanks with about 75 gallons of rain water in 3 days). While a great anchorage the little village was a huge dissapointment excepts for the saturday morning market. A walk or a bus ride away from the village was very rewarding. On Monday we took a bus to the north side of the island, when we got to our destination we decided to stay on the bus as we were really enjoying the beautiful scenery. At the end of the route in Marigot, we caught another bus that went through the interior to the capital city of Roseau. From there we took a bus up to Trafalgar Falls. Again a breathtaking bus ride with two incredible water falls. We had lunch at a dahrling place right along the rushing river at the bottom of the falls. I was very brave and ordered goat for my first time and enjoyed it very much. While there we met two couples from Denver who fly all over the world to Scuba Dive. They think Dominica is the best diving they have ever experienced, even over Bali and Tahiti. After arriving back in Roseau we walked around town a bit and then caught a bus back to Portsmouth. The day yileded a new perspective on the island of Dominica. The entire island is a gorgeous rain forest with over 300 rivers and water falls.
5-18 We moved the boat to Roseau and explored the area. Shopping in large markets is always a treat and we found some items we have been looking for. In the US we take for granted finding items like Salad Dressing, Tortillas or Balsamic Vinegar....and many more.
