6-16 After a nice sail south to Carriacou we dropped the hook and cleared customs. Carriacou is part of Grenada and we had planned on exploring the island but a Tropical Wave was forecasting several days of rain and wind so we headed for Grenada after only two nights. I just booked a ticket to Wisconsin and wanted to get Steve and the boat settled in before I left. I am going to be a SLOTH for a few months. Yes, a SLOTH (Sailor Living On The Hard)!
6-18 St Georges is the main port on Grenada, we stopped here for provisions before continuing on the the south coast. As WeGo approached this harbor town my camera was busy snapping perfect pictures. The buildings are set right along the water with a very European effect. Saturday is market day and we enjoyed the sights and smells of this festive atmosphere. I had to get a spice necklace or two as this is a tradition. The necklace is made of nutmeg, clove, cinnamon and other wonderful spices. The aroma will last for months hanging in my galley reminding us we have reached Grenada.
The south coast has several deep harbors that attract the cruisers for hurricane season. We chose Prickly Bay as our first stop but also checked out Mt Hartman Bay and Hogs Island and Clark's Court. Then we skipped several bays and headed to St Davids to check out Grenada Marine. Some cruisers are having the boat hauled out and will spend up to 4 months back in the states but more will just live on the boat in one of the many harbors for the season. While I am gone Steve may have the boat pulled and the bottom refinished. He also has a long to-do list and we are looking for the best place for him to hole up.
6-26 We have decided on Mt Hartman Bay for Sailacious for the next few months. There are boats here that we have met along that way, and like us are here for their first hurricane season. Many activities are within a dingy ride including Pot Lucks, Volley Ball, Domino Matches, and even Art Classes. All by and for cruisers. Like all the other islands we are impressed with the bus service. We have explored a bit and have liked what we have seen. A bus/van arrives at the dingy dock here twice a week to take cruisers from this bay to the bank, hardware and grocery store, fresh fruit markets for only $10 E.C. per person.
I know Steve will be taken care of while I am SLOTHing in Wisconsin. He has already had invites to dinner and other events. I will sure miss him but he may come to the US for a few weeks.
