9-6 It is great to be back home and to see all of our friends here. The flight was uneventful and customs went smoothly. I had all of my purchases on a spreadsheet so I could hand the list to the agent and pay the reguired duties. I was fairly honest :)! Well, 'fairly' is a relative term....
Getting back into the routine here is pretty easy. We take the bus to town grocery shopping twice a week. Domino's is on Sundays and Pot Luck on Thursdays at the marina. This week we are organizing a bus to take us to the Seven Sisters Waterfalls and it is almost full already. I had read about the Falls and wanted to see it before we leave here to move on.
This hurricane season has been a bit more active than usuall but all that has happened here in Grenada is rain and squalls. We did have a bit of a blow here the other night and a few boats were dragging their anchors around the bay. We held fast and our anchor is probably so stuck it will be a chore to get it up, after all the boat has been here 3 months already.
9-13 Work,Work, Work! Yesterday we cleaned the anchor chain (yes - that is as exciting as it sounds) and then took the dingy to the beach and scrubbed it top to bottom. Steve had cleaned the anchor chain before but those nasty barnacles are really tenacious little guys. Today we washed all the interior cushion covers and the new wringer works great. Then we got an excuse to swim and srubbed the bottom of the boat, WEW. Time for a day off! Glad we are going to the waterfalls tomorrow.
Did I tell you about Ribbit? My five year old grandson Collin gave me a stuffed frog called Ribbit. He will travel with us and go in our back pack as we tour islands and explore new things. I will then send Collin pictures of Ribitt and he will follow Ribbit's adventures around the Caribbean. Watch for this cute little guy to show up in the photo gallery.
9/15 Yesterday we went to Seven Sisters Waterfalls. It was an interesting ride with our driver Patrick. We had 14 on the bus (van) and fun was had by all. The hike to the falls was about 20 minutes each way of climbing rocks, mud and rough terrain. We were rewarded with a swim in the fresh water pool. The water was cool enough to take your breath away for a minute but it was so refreshing! And fresh water is a treat we do not get often. All the water for the falls comes from the rain. This area is rainforest and it is the rainy season so the falls were spectacular!
We had packed lunches and cold beverages and the cooler temps at the top of the mountain made it a perfect day!
Ginger Beer is a spicier version of Ginger Ale found throughout the Caribbean. Our Soda Stream has Ginger Ale syrup but I decided to try to make a batch of the spicier alternative. I purchased ginger root at the produce market and peeled and chopped, added lime peel and sugar and boiled for 20 minutes. I added 1/2 cup to a litre of charged water and was pleased with the results! Now, just add rum!
9/17 Too easy! Today we made ice cream and it was so easy I don't know why we didn't do it before. In a quart zip lock baggie add sugar, milk, cream and vanilla then seal. Place the quart baggie in a gallon baggie with ice and salt. Shake for 15 to 20 minutes and 'Viola' (as Lisa would say) the next thing you know, you have ice cream.
9-20 Kayak tug of war! An event was organized last weekend that got everyone on the beach and laughing. A kayak tug of war had two opposing kayaks and each had a team member in the water as well, clearly this person was there to sabage the opponents! The results were a HOOT.
The weather has been great. Hot during the day but a nice breeze and it has been cooling down at night. We are still getting lots of rain but that keeps us from hauling water!
10-4 Storms! Last night was an icredible lightning storm. For hours the lightning and thunder shook the boat and us. Wind was blowing the rain almost horizontally at the boat and we needed to close all the hatches. As if by a giant strobe light the anchorage was iluminated and we could check our possition and that of other boats, almost everyone held fast. We were hit by lightning before we left Florida and lost all of our electronics, now when it storms we worry about a repeat. On the up side, we gathered so much water that our tank and jerry jugs were full!
10-7 Wind, wind, wind! What wind we have had! We are waiting to leave for Trinidad but the wind is coming from the south and that is where we head so we have to wait for a change in direction. Last night the wind blew up to 20 knots all night with gusts much higher. We had dinner on a friends boat and the ride back was a very wet one, heading into the wind with the waves crashing over WeGo's bow. We knew it would be a wet return but went anyway and were glad we did. We had a wonderful meal and even had Creme Brulee for desert! What a treat.
