Heading North
05 November 2010
Weren't we here before?
11-5 We arrived back in Grenada after checking the forecast and getting perfect predictions for an east / south-east wind at around 18 knots for our 82 mile crossing due north! Well predictions are not fact, in case you didn't know! We motored into the wind the entire trip north. Luckily the current was in our favor and we had a easy motor and good speed. Yesterday we took the bus to town to pick up a few things and are saying goodbye to new old friends. Tonight was a big gathering at the Le Fuer Bleu with fantastic blues by several local musicians, the place was over-run with cruisers that had dug out appropriate clothing for night club atmosphere. Many hugs and goodbye along with a bit of dancing. Grenada is your typical campground atmosphere and many boats spend 5 months here every year. There are many boats that we will see again throughout the winter, but there are also friends that we leave behind to travel in different directions. Good luck and safe sailing to those going west this year. While we enjoyed the pot lucks and Mexican Train Domino games, we are really glad to move on and SAIL.
11-8 Oh Glorious Day! Conditions were right and we hauled anchor mid morning. We stopped after only a few hours of great sailing for an overnight half way up the west side at a known snorkel and dive spot. There was plenty to see but the water was a bit disturbed by the rolling seas. I bet you are wondering about Internet access. I write this up on a word document so I can upload it to the blog when we have connectivity. Access has been spotty.
Tonight, for the first time in months we will have an anchorage to ourselves. We will grill dinner and have rum drinks and see a sunset! We have been in harbors with no view of the west so tonight is a special night for us as our favorite spots are always the isolated anchorages with great views and lovely colors as the sun descends into the sea to rejuvenate itself for an early morning rising.
