Ahhh, Wine Country
06 July 2015

Ah, wine county.
Taking the scenic routes are not always the most relaxed routes. Northern California has one mountain range after another and when you think you are through them and heading into flatter land....you just might be wrong. The entrance to Highway 1 from the north comes with a warning: 'RVs over 40 feet prohibited'. 'Not recommended for the faint of heart' should be added to that sign! Our campsite however, may have been worth the effort. Sea lions were basking in the sun along the Pacific shore just steps from our door, wild flowers bordered walking paths and sunsets were magnificent.
Traveling inland to Santa Rosa was only a bit less nerve wracking. Using this as our base we traveled in Toad (our tow vehicle) throughout the northern area of San Francisco Bay and Sonoma Wine Valley. Fields of grapes as far as the eye could see along a road peppered with Tasting Rooms. We did our best to try most of them and came away with a variety of wines. The next couple of nights were spent near Napa Valley where we did it all over again. Our campsite at Lake Solano park had a flock of peacocks roaming around and we were fortunate enough to see a male strutting his stuff for the affections of the ladies. Remember the old NBC peacock? Yup, we are showing our age.
This is a lovely place to visit for a 'Wineaux' like me.
