Rodney
We are 70 miles away from Puerto Amerimar in the South of Spain. We left Gibraltar on Friday at noon and spent the night in Fuengirola. We anchored off the beach just inside the breakwater. We arrived in Fuengirola around 8:00 with two hours of daylight left. On the way we passed the Sierra Nevada Mountains and anchored in Playa San Francisco. Where are we again? Even though we are at Latitude 36, the sun does not set until 9:30 pm b/c of the time zone (sunrise is about 6:45am). The beach was packed with swimmers until 10:00 pm and the shore is lined with high rises. The towns seem impersonal compared to the quaint villages in the Azores and Portugal.
Puerto Amerimar is supposed to be more low-key. Many cruisers frequent the marina so we are hoping to find some other sailors migrating east. We still have not met any cruising families that are heading in our direction.
