Day 8
12 July 2022 | Pacific Ocean
Rodney
We did 144 miles over th e last 24 hours and are now 1061 miles from Hawaii. That means we will have our halfway party tonight! Since one of our crew
members has not crossed the Pacific, we also get to initiate her into the club. Hopefully King Neptune will look favorably.
We have been sailing in and out of light air zones for the last two evenings, which has been challenging. We download weather files multiple times a day
and use navigational software to route us to the most optimum path. Sometimes the routing makes sense, other times it does not. So in the end you have
to use your judgment. When all else fails, point your bow at Hawaii.
So far the boat has performed really well. Even Lisa is hanging in there. She took some pretty hard hits in the light air, as the bottom of the spinnaker
would give her a wack. But she just bobbles port or starboard and just keeps pointing toward our destination. We have been using the watermaker every
day and running it from 2 to 3 hours to replenish our water supply. Showers will become a daily occurrence as we get into even hotter weather.
Lunch today will be turkey, salami, and hickey smoked gouda, on power seed bread - if only we could add a beer.
Cheers,
Capt Rod
