Sunday 'Italian style'

08 July 2013 | Levanzo Sciliy
We’ve spent this Sunday with the ITALIANS if not on the beach then in a tiny little cove. Here’s a few things we've learned about going to the coast for Sunday 'Italian style'.

Wear as little as possible! The Blokes wear spedos as small as achievable. These ain’t budgie smugglers more like baby finch smugglers! Girls the same rules apply, only less, the bottoms of your bikini must expose most of your butt cheeks, if not all. Bikini tops seem to be de-regure but also as small as doable. Colour – this needs to be 'Day-glo' possible optional colours are Lime green, Yellow, Barbi pink & that’s just the boys.

They seems to take little with them preferring to eat on return in the evening. Though a few ready mixed Campari & sodas seems to be going down quite well.

Get the biggest rib you can get. It must have a centre console, Bimini is optional (You will be wanting to flaunt your gym honed body in the sun). Most seem to go for RIBS about 25ft long though we did see one rib at 37 ft!

Now this is most important! Get the biggest that will not sink your rib. 225Hp was normal and some had twin 200Hp engines the fact that you will be cruising slowly so everyone else can see you has nothing to do with it. Power is all!

You need to pack the rib to the maximum with people the average seemed to be about 10 per rib any less and you obviously have no friends!

Get a decent sound system in your Rib at least 200W of power and pump out those beats as loud as possible. If the guy next to you plays his loud just turn up the volume!

Where to go.
Don’t find a small desolate cove with no one there. Who wants isolation! Find out where the others are going then all go there together. After all you want to show off your physique. Raft up your ribs so you can walk from one side of the bay to the other on all the boats tied up together.

Occasionally you will find that a sailing yacht ( you know the slow things with a rag & stick) have got there before you. Usually by dint of selecting the empty bay the night before. Ensure you make it clear that this is the party bay for Ribs by giving them the a hard stare to tell them that this is your space!

This is when you can use the power of your Outboards to wizz through the anchorage and cause all the others to rock around in your wake.
