2. Martha MacGyver & his dinghey!
02 October 2000
Mark got a 9'6" fiberglass dingy. It was a derelict and the harbor master sold it to us for a good price. He replaced all the wood and made oars from scratch. So after sanding and buffing and then sanding and buffing a whole bunch more she turned from derelict to a little beauty. We named her "Amazing Gracie."
He then stopped by JoAnn's fabric & picked up some ripstop nylon in two colors - blue & yellow. Then he came home & laid the nylon out on the floor & started to cut blue pieces & yellow pieces. No pattern, just cut cut cut!! Then he started sewing & Wah Lah! (I know that is supposed to be the French word Voila). The spinaker was made.
Did I mention that he can cook some delicious meals too? Mark really dislikes it when I call him Martha (as in Martha Stewart) MacGyver (as in the TV show) but I think it fits him perfectly. Making beautiful, efficient and yummy things out of what ever is on hand, now that is talent!
